More than 60 residents evacuated from Serangoon North Avenue 1 fire

A fire broke out in a second floor unit at Block 147 Serangoon North Avenue 1 at around 7.10pm last night (18 January).

More than 60 residents of the block had to be evacuated and 2 women had to be sent to hospital for breathlessness.

Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel and police officers evacuated a total of 16 residents from the 2nd to 5th storey. Another 50 residents left their own units themselves.

A resident who witnessed the fire said he heard a “pop” sound before the entire block went dark and power went off.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
