4 months’ jail term for vandalising police cameras

Blaming an act of vandalising on “bad mood” is not exactly a very good reason.

For vandalising police cameras installed at an HDB block which caused $980 of damage, Lim Sin Ann was sentenced to 4 months’ jail.

The 52 year old man was also charged with two other charges including stealing a PAssion card.

He admitted that he decided to burn 3 police cameras, known as POLCAMs at Block 212 Boon Lay Place in the early hours of 6 November 2017, while in a bad mood.

Lim stood on a stool which he took from his flat to reach the cameras. After setting some newspapers on fire, he held it up to burn the camera. He shielded himself from the cameras with an umbrella.

Each POLCAM cost the Police $327 to repair as the lenses of the cameras were blackened.

The punishment for vandalism is a fine of up to $2,000 or up to three years’ jail and caning.

Lim cannot be caned because he is above the age of 50.
