A 54-year-old man from Hebei, China has won praises for leaping into an icy river to save an old lady.

Shi Lei was cycling to work when he saw an elderly woman trapped beneath the ice shield.

He immediately stopped his bike and crawled across the half-frozen river to rescue her.

As part of the lake was frozen, he had to smash the ice using his bare hands to drag her out of the lake.

Another man also helped to hold on to Shi Lei’s clothes to prevent him for falling into the icy water and also laid a wooden plank to help them get out of the water safely.

In a separate video, it showed the 70-year-old lady shivering in the cold after she was rescued.

A few good Samaritans buckled up her coat and tried to keep her warm with a few extra layers of clothing.

It was reported that Shi Lei accompanied the old lady home and took a shower and drank a bowl of ginger water before heading to work.

This heartwarming story will restore your faith in humanity. What a beautiful way to end 2017!
