From Dec 12, you can book an electric car and impress your girlfriend by driving her around SG

Share

Well well, the future of car-sharing is here! This is a notch higher compared to Uber and Grab.

Starting next Tuesday (Dec 12), you’ll be able to book an electric car and hit the roads as long as you’re 21 years or older and you have a valid ASEAN driver’s license or international driver’s permit.

That means, you don’t have to be a Singaporean or PR to drive this electric car.

BlueSG, a subsidiary under the French transportation firm Bollore Group, will be deploying 80 vehicles, out of which 30 will be rolled out islandwide by end this year.

Where can you find the car?

There will be 30 stations scattered across the island offering 120 charging points for its electric cars.

18 stations will be situated in public housing areas like Tampines, Bishan and Punggol. 10 stations will be in the city and its fringes. The remaining two will be at one-north and the Science Park.

How much will it cost?

There are two subscription plans – the yearly membership plan and the weekly membership plan.

For the yearly plan, you will have to pay S$15 a month and you will be charged S$0.33 per minute for a minimum booking of 15 minutes.

For the weekly plan, you will pay a bit more for per/min usage. It is charged at S$0.50 per minute for minimum duration of 15 minutes.

Here’s an example of how much it will cost you.

If you intend to use it for three hours to bring your girlfriend out on a dinner date and send her home, you can expect to fork out S$90 (on weekly plan).

To reduce this cost, you can choose to pick up your girlfriend and travel to a dinner place that has BlueSG charging stations around it. Then, return the car before having dinner.

If you decide to send her home by car, you can always pick up another car after dinner.

You may only need up to 1.5 hours for this method and your cost can be reduced by half to S$45.

How to “chope” a car?

All you got to do is book the car through the BlueSG app (which will be available from Dec 5). Standby your driving license and debit/credit card.

Take note that you might not be able to book a car as and when you like during the initial phase due to the limited supply of cars.

However, BlueSG intends to roll out 1,000 electric cars and 2,000 charging points by 2020.
