14 months old baby OVERDOSED on cough medicine after clinic dispensed the wrong dosage

Share

A reader wrote in to Sure Boh Singapore to raise awareness on something serious that happened to her 14 months old baby.

She brought her baby to “YSL Bedok Clinic & Surgery” and the clinic dispensed a cough syrup named “Fedac” with a dosage of 10ml for 3 times a day.

She followed the clinic’s instructions and after feeding her baby with 10ml of Fedac, he became very drowsy and has not fully detoxed out the codeine.

Codeine is an opiate that is used to treat pain and it is one of the ingredients in Fedac Compound syrup.

She then brought her baby to the Gleneagles hospital and he was diagnosed for excessive drowsiness and medicine overdose.

Here’s the letter content from the hospital:

This is to certify that xxx attended GLENEAGLES A N E TODAY FOR excessive drowsiness and FEDAC / mucosolvan OVERDOSE. He was not in respiratory distress but more lethargic. IM NAXOLONE was administered for precaution.

The reader has enquired from Singapore Medical Council but they will take at least 9 months to review this case.

Parents, please take note and help spread the word to your family and friends who visit the group chain of clinics under Qualitas Medical Group.

Remember to ask the clinics to double check their medication.
