This happened only five weeks after his daughter had been discharged from hospital after she was accidentally dropped by him, and suffered a broken skull.

Besides the 6 month’s jail, he was also given a concurrent sentence of 3 month’s jail for causing grievous hurt to the child by doing a negligent act to endanger her personal safety.

His sentence was backdated to 17 October by the judge.

According to the prosecution, Shiddiq placed the child on his lap while using one hand to hold the milk bottle to her mouth and the other hand to play the game on his mobile phone.

The baby struggled for two minutes before she apparently choked on her milk.

The maximum penalty for causing death by negligence is a jail term of 2 years and a fine. For causing grievous hurt, he could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
