Orchard Road will finally have its first ever Christmas Village this year!
This is a new addition to the annual Orchard Road light-up celebrations. It will be set up for one month outside Ngee Ann City, starting November 25 till 25th December.
If you’re heading down to bask in the festive atmosphere, you can stroll past pop-up stores from 25 brands including Starbucks and Toast Box.
This means you can look forward to sipping a cup of hot toffee nut latte from Starbucks’ (its signature Christmas drink) and window-shop at the same time!
For parents with young children, there will be a two-story carousel for $5 a ride.
The theme for this year is Endless Wonder.
Apart from the village, live bands, carollers and roving cosplayers will be also putting up performances daily. Also, not forgetting the 12m-tall main arch outside Ion Orchard and a 5m Enchanted Tree installation outside Wisma Atria.
This year, the Christmas installations of 1,200 hanging globes will light up the shopping belt at 3pm instead of the usual 6.30pm.
According to the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA), the hanging globes are transparent with LED lights so points of light will be emitted even in daytime.
Now these certainly sounds promising especially if the Christmas Village is open to the public without entrance fee.
However, it might also draw large crowds to the area where all the magic is happening.
For the first two years of the Christmas Wonderland editions at Gardens by the Bay, it attracted a total of 2.5 million people. It was so crowded that the event organiser decided to charge admission fees when it returned last year.
So will Endless Wonder at Orchard draw in as much crowd as Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay? We certainly hope not.
But we definitely look forward to a magical Christmas at Orchard.
