The Singapore Police Force has reported in a statement that between January and September this year, there were 1,168 cases of molest cases reported. This is 194, or 19.9% more than the same period last year.
152 occurred on public transport, while 76 happened at public entertainment outlets.
Last Tuesday, a 20 year old woman reported that she was molested by a man in the area near Buangkok MRT station.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Public Transport Security Command investigated, and a 41 year old man was arrested near Buangkok MRT station on Monday, 23 October.
Another case of molestation happened to a 25 year old woman near Geylang last Wednesday.
She made a police report saying she was molested by a man along Guillemard Road.
The 35 year old suspect was arrested along Adam Road on Monday after officers from Bedok Police Division identified the suspect.
If found guilty, the molestation offenders can be jailed for up to 2 years, fined, caned, or a combination of the three penalties.
