If you’re a GrabHitch driver, this is the kind of rider that you hope you won’t meet.

A GrabHitch driver was on his way to pick up his rider when she suddenly cancelled on him even though he wasn’t late.

At 6.17pm, he texted the rider to ask her to reply ASAP to confirm the ride at 7pm. Note that his message was rather polite and friendly too.

The rider replied his text at 6.45pm to ask for his location and told him that she is ready.

Driver then replied that he was on his way and will arrive in 5 mins.

The rider then proceeded to cancel the ride at 6.58pm and this left the driver feeling very frustrated and disappointed.

He asked her why she cancelled as it was not 7pm yet and expressed his disappointment that she suddenly cancelled when he was already on his way.

GrabHitch drivers and riders can cancel on each other without penalty as it is not a commercial service.

GrabHitch drivers do not need to own a private-hire driving vehicle license and whatever fare they receive is meant to subsidise their petrol cost.

If riders are not courteous enough to inform the driver in advance that they are not able to proceed with the ride, we may end up seeing lesser and lesser GrabHitch drivers.

At the very least, riders should be gracious enough to apologise for the last minute cancellation.

Remember, GrabHitch drivers are not private-hire vehicle drivers.
