Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be kind and helpful. A 42 year old mother helped her fellow mothers in her “mummy group” to place an order of 150 infant formula milk on Carousell and was cheated of $8893.

Ms Tay, who works as an administrative executive had previously placed orders of infant milk formula successfully twice. So she wanted to help her fellow mothers to save money and place a bulk order for them.

According to Ms Tay, the milk powder which she bought via Carousell was 20% cheaper than at other physical shops.

In the Chinese newspaper reports, she said that both occasions, she met up with the seller at public places to receive her items and to make payment, which she felt was very safe.

But it was only when the seller gained the trust of Ms Tay and when the bulk order was made that the seller tried to be play tricks on her. The seller had said that because the order was big, so Ms Tay had to transfer her the money first.

The seller apparently kept delaying the delivery of the order after the order was made, giving the excuse that the distributor delayed the items.

Because of this, Ms Tay had to fork out her own money to return the money to her fellow mothers in the “mummy group”.

The amount was apparently about one year’s worth of bonus for Ms Tay.

Ms Tay has made a police report and the police are currently investigating.
