The new Yistana Yishun Park Hawker Centre just opened about a week ago. But already people are complaining about many things about it.

Diners complain about the design of the hawker centre and its user-friendliness, even hawkers also complain about the cashless payment system.

One of the major problems that diners face is that the only drinks stall is located at one end of the hawker centre and the wait to buy drinks during peak hour can be 20 to 40 minutes.

Older diners also complain about the cashless payment and tray return systems which makes use of radio frequency identification.

When customers need a tray to carry their food items to their table, they need to pay a dollar deposit which will be refunded to them when they return the tray to a collection point.

Diners can pay for their meals using a mobile app which stores credits or cash. If they pay using the app, they can get a 10% discount on their bill.

But older diners struggle with the technology, and thus have problems with the app.

Hawkers also have their fair share of complaints too. Glitches in the cashless payment system led to some of the transactions not being registered during the first few days of operations.

And that’s not all, apparently there is only one main access in and out of the hawker centre, which means there is a safety concern. But according to the Mr Edward Chia, the managing director of Timbre Group which manages the hawker centre, they are in talks with the authorities to mitigate the situation.
