Netizen Weiwen, received a WhatsApp message from an unknown user using a logo from the Singapore Police Force logo as a profile picture, turns out to be a Moneylending scam. The netizen had since filed a police report. The following screen capture show how the scammer operates. We hope no one falls for this trick.

Loanshark: What time banking in?
Weiwen: Bank what?
Loanshark: Your loan payment
Weiwen: What loan?
Loanshark: Last week you took a loan
Loanshark: U forget?
Weiwen: No! I didn’t
Loanshark: What?
Loanshark: Yang weiwenm
Weiwen: How much was the loan? Which bank account you bank into? Show me.
Loanshark: $500
Loanshark: We pass cash to you
Weiwen: When was it bank in?
Loanshark: Today need clear $650
Weiwen: Cash?
Loanshark: Last Saturday!
Weiwen: No!
Weiwen: Did I sign anything?
Weiwen: You better stop these before I’m going to report.

Loanshark: You can do whatever you want. If I never receive my money today I will do whatever I want
Weiwen: Where did you pass me? Did I sign any documents? Show all to me before I do anything
Loanshark: I ah long, need sign what thing…
Loanshark: My man pass to you at Bedok
Loanshark: Now you tell me not you
Weiwen: Obviously I know you are. But I did not take any loan from you and I did not go Bedok at all!
Loanshark: So if you say so then don’t need pay?
Weiwen: Just like you said I took a loan from you which I didn’t and you expect me to transfer money to you? That’s ridiculous.
Loanshark: If all customer took already and say never take I close shop liao
Loanshark: Loan under your name and IC. I never receive my money then I have to do my job.
Loanshark: <Trying to call Weiwen, but failed>
Loanshark: Chee bye. Where is my money?
Loanshark: FUCKING CHEE BYE
Loanshark: 7pm past, I send out your address
Loanshark: Good luck.
Member of the public can call the anti-scam helpline initiated by the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC). The number, 1800-722-6688, will be in operation from Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm, except on public holidays, and dial ‘999’ only if urgent Police assistance is required.
