How about a AMDK bus captain driving a SBS bus for you?

SBS Transit employed a 34-year-old Mr Daniel Jacobus Ellis as a bus captain, who believed to be the only AMDK bus captain here from South Africa.

He is the only Ang Moh employed by the SBS Transit as a bus captain. SBS Transit has about 5,800 bus captains as of now.

Mr Ellis started his training to be a bus captain in February and has been driving with SBS Transit since April this year.

He had previously worked as a freelance business analyst here, said Mr Ellis.

He wanted to find himself a stable job as when he saw an ad by SBS at the LRT station hunting for bus captain. He decided why not giving it a try.

Mr Ellis moved to Singapore in 2011 when he married a Singaporean wife and had gained his citizenship two years ago.

He had a BTO 4-room HDB in Punggol, which he shares with his wife, who works as a school counsellor.

To keep himself alert during his long 12-hour shift in driving the bus, he will usually drink a cup of “kopi gao” from the Hougang Central Bus Interchange canteen.

He may be an AMDK Bus Captain but he projected “a very professional image” said Mr Lee Teck Chuan, the Interchange Manager.

Sure Boh

Anyway, the next time if you happened to board the bus driven by Mr Ellis, don’t get stunned when he greets you “goeie more” in the morning, which means Good Morning in his native Afrikaans.
