Oops! Singaporean Para-athlete Kalai Vanen complains about MSF…

Is Singapore disabled-friendly? Looks like one of our Singaporean para-athlete Kalai Vanen doesn’t think so.

Para-athlete Kalai Vanen has complained about the MSF (Ministry of Social and Family Development, not limpeh’s Ministry of Singapore Friends) wanting people like him to use a walking frame, so that they can continue to eligible for a Class 1 Disabled parking label.

He says that the pair of elbow crutches and the walking frame recommended by MSF will allow him to walk and carry an umbrella if it rains or carry bags and maneuver walking around a parking lot.

“The walking frame or the wheel chair won’t do anything to improve my mobility. As strong as I am, walking is not easy.”

Wah lau eh, MSF, don’t like that lah. Disabled persons already have a lot of trouble moving around. Why must add to their problem by having all these funny funny requirements in order to get a simple parking label leh?

Why must specify what sort of bulky mobility aid to use? If the person is disabled, means he already has a problem maneuvering around already right? And some more our car parks are so tight and small, moving around with a bulky mobility aid will be lagi difficult lor.

If the person can just use a normal crutch to get out of the car park lot, cannot meh?

Kalai actually has a point, if he has to use two hands to maneuver the mobility aid, then how is he to hold an umbrella if it rains?
