Before last year, the number of people killing themselves was already decreasing for three years.

2016: 429

2015: 409

2014: 415

2013: 422

This means that the national suicide rate is now 8.54 per 100,000 resident population last year.

According to the report by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, the majority of suicide cases were from those above the age of 50, especially for men, which psychiatrists said are a traditionally at-risk group.

(Note: Limpeh want to say: Friends, don’t take things too hard and serious…must learn to see things positively. Must cherish and be grateful for what we already have.)

A psychiatrist said that after suffering major setbacks such as getting retrenched or divorced, many commit suicide to put an end to their suffering.
