Allen & Gledhill vs Alan & Gledhill…so confusing!

Share

Some smart debt collecting business has named their company Alan & Gledhill. Sounds familiar boh? The name actually sounds VERY similar to Allen & Gledhill, which is a famous law firm in Singapore.

The law firm has apparently written to the debt collecting business to demand it change its name.

“Our firm has no association with its company, its owners or management…We will not hesitate to pursue all necessary legal action to protect the name and goodwill of our firm.”

Allen & Gledhill

The law firm used to have Law Minister K. Shanmugam and Attorney-General Lucien Wong as lawyers working in the firm.

On the other hand, Alan & Gledhill Debt Recovery claims on its website that it is the top debt colector in Singapore with 20 years’ experience and a 99% success rate. (But actually hor, if limpeh not wrong, debt recovering business is actually another word for legalised loandsharks si boh?)

Here’s the funny part, the man who owns the company is a man named Mr Tan Wan Kiah. He said the name is made up of two names. He said he is also known as Alan, and Gledhill is his “long-lost Australian friend” who was also a successful debt collector.

While he confirmed that he received the letter from the Allen & Gledhill last Friday, he said:

“I am just a small fry…I have no intention of creating trouble.”
