A 28-year-old truck driver Muhammad Iskandar Ismail was sentenced to 16 years jail and 24 strokes of the cane on Monday (July 10, 2017) for sexually assaulting and raping a teenager barely an hours after they met each other.
Muhammad Iskandar Ismail pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of aggravated rape. Another count of outraging the modesty of a 19-year-old girl was taken into consideration.
The incident took place on August 16, 2016, when a friend of introduces the victim to Iskandar at a void deck, while on her way back from ‘dabaoing‘ McDonald and the both of them exchanged their phone number.
When the victim got home minutes later, she received a text message from Iskandar, suggesting the both of them to “hang out”.
She agreed and decided to bring her McDonald’s meal over to Iskandar’s flat, which happened to be nearby.
After she ‘makan’ finish, Iskandar asked the victim to tell him about herself. She then revealed that she is a single mother and she had a one-year-old son who suffered from heart problems.
Iskandar told her he “feels” for her and put his arm around her shoulder. He then starts trying to move closer to her but she told him not to touch her.
Iskandar apologised but did not move his arm away instead he pulled her towards him and asked her to have sex with him. When the victim said no, Iskandar pushed her onto the floor and covered her mouth with one hand and sat on her, and slapped and strangled her with the other hand.
He then undressed and pulled her clothes off and assaulted her. He also warned her to cooperate and threatened to strangle her again if she retaliates. The victim lay on the floor crying and do not dare to make a sound even when Iskandar raped her.
The girl lay on the floor in tears, not daring to make a sound, even when Iskandar raped her.
When he finished raping her, Iskandar apologised to the girl again and begged her not to report to the police. Iskandar let her go after she promised not to make any police report. The girl bumped into the male friend who introduced her to Iskandar outside the flat, she then told him about the rape and the male friend also begs the victim not to report to the police.
The victim rushed to her ex-boyfriend house, who is also the father of the son and told him what had happened. He then took her to the police. Later that day, as he was leaving the house to work, Iskandar received a call from the Singapore Police Force, asking to meet at the flat.
He then suspected that the girl had made a police report and decided to flee to his mother’s home in JB but was unfortunately arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint the same day evening.
The judge sentence Iskandar 16 years of jail and 24 strokes of the cane, and told him to use these time behind bars to “reflect on what you have done and resolve to change yourself”. The judge also encourages Iskandar to “learn some skills in prison so that you can come out and be more useful to society”.
Iskandar could have been sentenced to up to 20 years jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane for each count.
