Uber driver molest a child in the car and cancelled the booking to cover his track

Dear Parents,

I’ve seen students getting into Uber or Grab cars often on their own at school dismissal.

I would like to share an incident that happened at my household this morning with my help. I called an Uber car to pick my daughter from the market to home and she always SMS me when she’s in the Uber car to let me know she’s on the way home.

So I was surprised when I received a notification 15 mins later from Uber that the ride was cancelled and at the same time I heard the gate opened at my home.

She arrived back in tears and related that she was harassed by the Uber driver persistently asking for her mobile number.

And as he was driving with one hand on the steering wheel, he reached out with the other behind and start molesting her legs. She was so frightened that she gave her number to the driver and he called her mobile to ensure that it’s the right number.

He had also cancelled the booking to cover his tracks.

Uber does not have a hotline. I’ve written in and had an email reply saying that they will call me within the hour, which I’ve yet to receive. I will be taking her to the police station to make a report.

So please parents, take note. It’s traumatising enough for an adult who feels trapped in the car let alone for a child.
