A young boy aged between 4 to 5 years old had his leg caught in an ofo bicycle for almost 20 minutes. This frightened and caused him to burst out in tears.

The incident took place last Sunday (11 June) at Block 191 Boon Lay Way void deck at approximately 1.40pm.

Mr Ng, a 63-year-old eyewitness, gave his account to Shin Min. He said he happened to be at the void deck chatting with his friend when he suddenly heard a boy and girl shouting for help so he rushed over to see what happened.

“A boy was seen lying on the ground with an ofo bicycle with his left leg stuck in the rear wheel between the bike frame, a young girl was squatting beside him.”

It is believed that the young girl and boy are siblings and both of them were riding the bike together. The boy may have slipped his leg into the frame. At that time, four to five people were trying to help the boy to free his leg and the boy was shouting in pain.

Mr Ng said that he tried to hold the boy’s waist and move the rear wheel. Eventually, he managed to help free the boy’s leg.

The whole process took around 20 minutes. The boy suffered from mild injuries as the skin on his leg tore and bled. A member of the public managed to call the father who came and carried the boy home.

According to the video, the boy was lying on the ground, bursting into tears and calling for his sister to comfort him. Three men were seen trying to free the boy’s leg from the frame but it wasn’t easy and the boy cried even more loudly.

The boy’s 50-year-old father, Mr Adam, told Shin Min that his son is not afraid and has resumed to his active self after resting at home for two days. “I will not stop him from playing as long as he is careful”, said Mr Adam.

An Ofo spokesman told Shin Min they are currently following up on the matter and will get in touch with the boy’s parents.
