Hijab images on the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Line vandalised with the word “terrorist”

Singapore: A 26-year-old undergraduate Haikal Latiff, tweeted a photo of a vandalism on an image of a woman wearing a hijab on the hoarding at the upcoming Marine Parade MRT station with the word “terrorist” at about 10 pm on Thursday (Jun 1, 2017).

 

A police report was made after the word “terrorist” appeared on an illustration of a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, which was part of the artwork decorating a hoarding at the site of the upcoming Marine Parade MRT station. reported by TNP

He spotted the offensive graffiti while walking past Parc Seabreeze condominium along Joo Chiat Road. That is where the Marine Parade MRT station is under construction for the upcoming Thomson-East Coast MRT line.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Land Transport Authority (LTA) have confirmed that the contractor involved made a police report on Friday.

In Singapore, any person who commits any act of vandalism or attempts to do any such act or causes any such act to be done shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, and shall also, subject to sections 325(1) and 330(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cap. 68), be punished with caning with not less than 3 strokes and not more than 8 strokes.
