The fidget spinner toy which has been advertised as a gadget to help people who have trouble focusing or fidgeting by acting as a release mechanism for stress has been popular among primary and secondary schools students in Singapore.

But some schools now forbid the use spinner toys in class as it has become a form of distraction.

Two teachers interviewed by Straits Times said that the toy “can be quite distracting and causes a disturbance to the other pupils around them.”

The spinner toy has been said to be beneficial to children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and those without.

Experts believe that the spinner toy is a legitimate means for those with ADHD to fidget and not be a distraction to others.

But with the number of different types of gadget spinners popping up in the market, it seems like spinner toys has become a bit of a fad. With some students comparing the design and speed of the spin the toy can produce.

No wonder why teachers feel that the gadget has become a disturbance for their students.
